Abstract: The [FIFA] World Cup could prove a breeding ground for hackers seeking to dupe unwitting fans out of their hard-earned cash, a cyber-security expert has told The Sun. Brits in attendance, and those watching from home, should be on the lookout for everything from fake ticketing scams to shady livestreams that can pinch your payment details. “When you consider the scope and scale of technology infrastructure required to host and broadcast one of the largest sporting events in the world, there is plenty of opportunity for malicious cyber-activity," said Steve Giguere, lead engineer at cyber-security firm Synopsys. The 2018 World Cup is expected to draw more than 5 million spectators from around the globe to host country Russia between June 14 and July 15.
